M. Van Wicklen is a very promising candidate for the position of left end on the
freshman team (Yale University). He is a Brooklyn boy, 18 years of age and up to
last June attended the Brooklyn High School. During his preparatory course in
the Brooklyn High School he played substitute end on the '95 foot ball team and
right end on the '96 team. He was president of the High School Athletic
Association and secretary of the Long Island Interscholastic League. He began
practice with the freshman squad when it was first called out and his practice
since then has been faithful and regular. That he has made a favorable
impression upon the management by his work is shown by the fact that he has been
selected to play the position of left end in the games that have been played
thus far this season.
